Dr. Marie Grimm is an Environmental Policy Research Fellow at the Center for Law, Energy, & the Environment (CLEE). Her work at CLEE primarily focuses on policy aspects of improving the implementation of multi-benefit water and environmental restoration projects, with an emphasis on streamlining permitting processes for such projects.

Prior to joining CLEE, Marie was a Research Associate at the Environmental Assessment and Planning Research Group at TU Berlin, Germany. She contributed to research projects and taught courses on environmental impact assessments and mitigation, and their role in decision-making processes as well as energy transitions. Marie earned her PhD at the same research group, graduating summa cum laude. Her research and publications analyzed the design and implementation of biodiversity offsets, with a strong focus on Conservation Banking in California. Marie holds a Master’s in Environmental Policy and Planning from TU & FU Berlin, and a Bachelor’s in North American Studies from FU Berlin.
