Student Experience at BCLT—How sponsors play a role
Below are vital experiences and activities our sponsors make possible for Berkeley Law students interested in IP and Technology law.
The Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BTLJ) and the Berkeley Journal of Entertainment and Sports Law (BJESL)
These journals publish scholarly articles, case notes, and legal commentary written by students. Funding from law firms helps cover printing costs, editorial expenses, and distribution. By their support, BCLT’s sponsors contribute to legal scholarship and provide students with opportunities to develop advanced research and writing skills that will serve them well as lawyers.
- The Berkeley Technology Law Journal (BTLJ) is a student-run publication of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law focused on intellectual property, high technology, and biotechnology. It is published four times a year. BTLJ strives to keep judges, policymakers, practitioners, and the academic community abreast of this dynamic field.
- The Berkeley Journal of Entertainment & Sports Law (BJESL) is dedicated to providing a wide selection of intellectual and practical discussions from scholars, practitioners, and students on legal issues that contemporaneously impact the sports and entertainment industries, both domestically and internationally. As an interactive and electronic law review, BJESL presents a unique platform for rich discourse on legal topics regarding copyright, trademark, art, sports, music, film & television, communications & broadcast media, First Amendment, rights to privacy, antitrust and unfair competition, and contracts, among others.
Student Specialization Groups
BCLT’s student groups focus on specific legal interest areas, diversity, and professional development. They organize various activities, such as panel discussions, workshops, and networking events.
Careers—Connecting students and law firms
We partner with our sponsors to provide career information for students interested in tech and IP law. This includes our 8-part Career Paths series for 1Ls and our numerous informational career lunch presentations held throughout the year. We also work with our sponsors to offer students career opportunities while still attending law school.
Career Paths Series and Recruiting Events
These events allow our sponsor law firms to meet students and discuss job opportunities. By engaging with students early in their legal education, firms can identify potential hires and build relationships.
