Judicial Externships are the fieldwork component of the Judicial Externship Seminar (289A). Students who are proposing judicial externships are eligible to receive 4-12 units of credit depending on the number of hours they work. Judicial exernships track the academic calendar for start and end dates. Students who are proposing full-time, 8 - 12 credits, judicial externships must receive academic clearance from a JD Academic Advisor in the Office of the Dean of Students the semester before they propose to do the externship. Students in their 2L fall are eligible for up to 5 credits for judicial externships. All judicial externship applications must be approved by the Field Placement Office. Once the application is approved, students will receive the class number for the Externship and the Seminar. The Judicial Externship Seminar Orientation will be all day on Friday, August 22, 2025. Students are required to attend the Orientation to receive academic credit for their judicial externships. In addition, the Seminar will meet on selected Tuesday evenings during the semester. Students are directed to: https://www.law.berkeley.edu/experiential/field-placement-program/how-to-apply/ for a copy of the Field Placement Application and to learn more about the Judicial Externship Program.
