Steven Schatz is a recently retired securities litigator, having spent the last 40 years as a partner at Wilson Sonsini. After graduating from Columbia Law School, Mr. Schatz clerked for the Hon. Walter Mansfield of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. After two years in private practice in Washington, Mr. Schatz joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the SDNY where he spent the majority of his time in the securities fraud unit. Among his successful prosecutions was the former manager of the Beatles, the head of a major legal services unit and the number three person in the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. In 1984, Mr. Schatz joined Wilson Sonsini where he has held numerous leadership positions including litigation chair, chair of the compensation committee and long-time member of the firm’s executive committee. He was lead counsel in over 175 securities and corporate governance class actions and has argued over 35 times in various federal circuit courts and the supreme courts of California and Delaware. He was lead trial counsel of HP’s acquisition of Compaq and the first successful defense of an action brought by the SEC to enforce Reg. FD. Recognized for his expertise, he has testified before congress on securities litigation reform. More recently, Mr. Schatz joined FedArb where he serves as as a mediator/arbitrator
