Professor Lois W. Schwartz entered UC Berkeley School of Law in 1986 at the age of forty, and every day thanks her lucky stars that she accepted the challenge. Her legal career began in private practice and quickly led to teaching. Her professional life has taken unconventional twists and turns, including a hiatus from academia in 2001 to complete a judicial clerkship in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, a stint with the Public Defender’s Office, and a position with the Contra Costa County Staff Attorneys’ Office. It is her goal in teaching to integrate academic understanding and practical skills.
