BLAST Montana students will be working with the Montana Legal Services Association (MLSA). For over fifty years, MLSA has championed fairness in Montana’s justice system by providing civil, non-criminal legal services to low-income Montanans across all 56 counties and Tribal Reservations.
During spring break, students will have the chance to work on criminal record expungements for low-income Montanans, including those affected by domestic violence. This hands-on legal work will vary according to MLSA’s needs and client caseloads but may include conducting legal intakes and client interviews, preparing forms, and advising clients through the processes of completing and filing expungement paperwork.
To ensure students are well-prepared for this pro bono work, we will conduct training leading up to spring break.
Time Commitment: Monthly meetings during fall and spring semester (approx 1-2 hrs/mo). All of spring break.
