In this lecture, Ori Rabinowitz will outline the dynamics that led the Israeli government, under Primer Minister Yitzhak Shamir, to expose the United States–Israel understanding of Israel’s nuclear status and the United States’ tacit acceptance of it. This lecture draws on declassified archival documents and forms a chapter in Rabinowitz’s forthcoming book on Israel’s regional counter-proliferation policy and larger nuclear strategy.
