The Apostrophe in “The Master’s Tools”: LPE and Using the Law Differently
Tuesday, September 3, 2024 @ 12:50 pm - 2:00 pm
Event Navigation

Come join Law and Political Economy (LPE) at Berkeley for a conversation about our role in social change as law students, and to learn about our plans for the semester!
We’ll begin by discussing Ruth Wilson Gilmore’s essay “Public enemies and private intellectuals: Apartheid USA” (recently republished in her book Abolition Geography). The essay is available here for those who are interested, but we’ll structure the conversation so you can fully engage without reading it. We’ll orient ourselves around Gilmore’s timely reflection on the apostrophe in one of Audre Lorde’s many classic formulations: “the master’s tools will never dismantle the master’s house.” After that conversation, we’ll chat about the Law and Political Economy (LPE) movement, our student chapter’s plans for the semester, and anything else that interests y’all!
Lunch provided! Please RSVP here.
Events are wheelchair accessible. For disability-related accommodations, contact the organizer of the event. Advance notice is kindly requested.
