New Horizons in Jerusalem Studies: An Integrative Framework for the Analysis of the Development of Modern Jerusalem
Monday, February 10, 2025 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Event Navigation
This lecture presents new research that offers an integrative framework for analyzing Jerusalem’s modern development from the late Ottoman period to the present. The project utilizes a newly compiled database of largely untapped archival sources to challenge traditional dichotomies such as East/West, tradition/modernism, and Arab/Jewish. It aims to propose a unified, broad temporal framework that highlights the city’s natural urban growth, bridging historical, geographical, and community divides.
Noah Hysler Rubin, 2024–2025 Koret Visiting Professor in Israel Studies at the Helen Diller Institute; Senior Lecturer, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem
