NBLSA Charles Hamilton Houston Symposium

NBLSA is a national organization that strives to develop, enrich, and promote the success of Black law students through articulating and highlighting the needs of our members.

The Charles Hamilton Houston Symposium aims to establish a platform for insightful discussions and dialogue on pressing issues faced by the Black community in the context of the law. The symposium will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023, at UC Berkeley School of Law from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm The panel is titled “Affirmative Action in California: Honoring Charles Hamilton Houston’s Legacy and Charting a Path for a Culturally Responsible Legal Profession.” Within this panel, we look to honor the legacy of Charles Hamilton Houston at UC Berkeley School of Law while discussing the importance of Affirmative Action, its historical importance to California, and the current status of our Nation following the Supreme Court’s recent decision. Further, we are excited to hear from our panelists:

Attorney Elise Traynum, General Counsel at ACLU of Northern California
Attorney Andrew Houston, Principal Counsel for the University of California, Berkeley
Attorney Samuel R. Lucas, Professor of Sociology, the University of California, Berkeley

In partnership with the Charles Hamilton Houston Bar Association, we are thrilled to host a networking reception that’ll start at 5:00 p.m. This reception will provide attendees with valuable opportunities for engagement and connection prior to the panel discussion. If you have any questions or need any assistance, you can contact Zeno Temple at service@nblsa.org.
