Municipal Law Institute 2025 Symposium
Friday, February 21, 2025
This one-day educational event, scheduled for February 21, 2025, will be held in-person at UC Berkeley School of Law in Berkeley, California. One of its main purposes is to integrate the study and practice of municipal law and introduce, encourage, and train students to work in the field.
This year, the symposium will get back to basics with an overview of legal areas particular to municipal law (the Nuts and Bolts), as well as share real-world stories from experts on-the-ground about how that law is being interpreted and applied (the Power Tools). Specific panel topics will include:
- Open Meetings and the Ralph M. Brown Act
- Ethics/Conflicts under the Political Reform Act
- Transparency under the Public Records Act
- Constitutional Law, focusing on signs and other issues
- Land Use and Housing.
The symposium will include a lunch plenary City Attorneys Roundtable, featuring four esteemed City Attorneys who will share their unique experiences representing different cities in California. The day will conclude with an informal meet & greet reception where attendees can interact with members from the Cal Cities Attorney Development and Succession Committee, as well as other municipal law attorney attendees of the symposium.
The symposium is co-sponsored this year by the League of California Cities and the California Constitution Center at UC Berkeley School of Law. Approximately 5 hours of general MCLE credit will be available.
Events are wheelchair accessible. For disability-related accommodations, contact the organizer of the event. Advance notice is kindly requested.
