The theme “Islam & Justice” reflects our commitment to exploring the evolving role of Islamic and Middle Eastern law in addressing contemporary legal, social, and economic challenges. The symposium is structured to foster critical discussions on the theory and development within this field.
Our program will feature three key sessions:
- Introduction to Islamic Law & Justice: Led by Professor Jawad Qureishi and Zahra Billoo, this session will introduce the fundamentals of Islamic law and how Islamic principles guide social justice.
- Securitization & the Middle East: Led by Professor George Bisharat and Sufia Khalid, this panel will focus on securitization and censorship as it relates to Arab and Muslim communities.
- Zakat, Islamic Finance and the Law: Led by Professor Hatem Bazian and Professor Harun Sencal, this session will introduce the fundamentals of Islamic Finance, its significance in the Islamic legal tradition, and its implications for public finance and legal systems in Islamic contexts.
