BCLT Careers in IP & Tech Law: Law Firm Economics

bclt careers panel Jan 31stJoin us on January 31, 2024 from 5:45 PM to 7:30 PM in Goldberg Room (Room 297, Law Building) for a panel about Law Firm Economics consisting of attorneys from 3 firms: Goodwin Procter, Fish & Richardson, and Greenberg Traurig. The panelists will talk about the similarities and differences when it comes to law firm economics, and whether or not firm economic structures can impact your career (Hint—they will!). This event is intended for J.D. students. RSVP now!

Firms like to advertise their profits per partner to show their strength.  But that measurement tells a new associate very little about a firm.  And that measurement gives a new associate no meaningful way to compare similar firms. You need more information.
 
Few things will impact your law-firm career more than the economic model used by your firm.  For many, that model was the single most important issue of their entire career–from 1L through senior partnership.  Economic models are directly linked to firm culture, mentoring opportunities, work assignments, client types, work-life balance, and promotion opportunities.  
 
Unfortunately, these economic issues are the hardest details about firms to find and understand, but they are not secret.  With the right questions, you can understand the impact that law firm economics will undoubtedly have on your career.

The discussion will be followed by a reception with light refreshments in Steinhart Courtyard.
