2023 Berkeley Forum on Corporate Governance | Paper Award Competition

The Berkeley Center for Law and Business will host the annual Berkeley Forum for Corporate Governance in San Francisco, on October 10-11, 2023. In the context of the forum, we will also host an academic symposium focusing on ESG-related topics (broadly defined) and include 8-10 papers, two of which will be selected to each receive the 2023 Berkeley Center for Law and Business Best Paper Award and a $10,000 prize. We will select 8 to 10 papers as finalists. The symposium will take place on October 12, 2023, providing all finalists with the opportunity to present their work and receive feedback.

The goal of this competition is to highlight current legal research in ESG issues and bring together leading legal scholars, practitioners, and investors. To encourage all scholars to participate, we will award one prize to a junior scholar (that have completed up to seven years since their first tenure-track appointment) and one prize to a senior scholar (that have completed 8 or more years since their first tenure-track appointment). Last year’s winners were:

• Hajin Kim, Expecting Corporate Prosociality (Junior Category)
• Jill Fisch and Jeff Schwartz, The Silent Majority: Enhancing the Role of Mutual Fund Owners (Senior Category)
