Professor Bertrall Ross visited Korea in the summer of 2017 to present a paper at Seoul National University titled Unbiasing the Electorate: Mobilizing the Poor to Address Political Inequality and to participate in the Berkeley Club Annual General Meeting. During the visit, Professor Ross also met with Justice Jae Hyung Kim of the Korean Supreme Court and Justice Il Won Kang of the Korea Constitutional Court. During these meetings, Professor Ross learned about the operation of the two high courts and how the two courts interact with each other in the resolution of constitutional controversies.
Accompanying these professional engagements were guided tours of Seoul by Berkeley alums. In these tours guided by Professors Jan Wan Park, Ji Bing Lim, Jason Lee and Judge Sang Hoon Na, Professor Ross visited the Changdeokgung Palace and its beautiful gardens as well as the Korea War Museum and its stories about the rich history of the country. Finally, Professor Ross had a chance to go to an exciting baseball game between the LG Twins and the Kia Tigers with Professor Lee and Judge Na. It was an extraordinary trip that introduced Professor Ross to the dynamism and energy of the incredible city of Seoul and to Berkeley alums with tremendously successful careers who continue to have a strong passion for the institution.
