Dear All:
While we all work virtually and strive to remain connected with each other and the community around us, I wanted to update you on how to learn of new remote pro bono opportunities available to faculty/staff/students. If you go to the Pro Bono Program landing page, you will see how to sign up for the Berkeley Law Pro Bono Opportunities List. I will continue to be circulating new live remote pro bono opportunities as they come in.
In addition, you will find a link for law students to sign up to join a national COVID-19 related pro bono effort organized by the ABA. Much of the work being assigned there is being facilitated by the Association of Pro Bono Counsel. Interested faculty could absolutely supervise and support students who sign up to engage in these efforts.
Finally, if you learn of legal services organizations in need of pro bono support, please do not hesitate to reach out to me so that I can incorporate them into our listings and facilitate placement of the work going forward.
Be well and take care,
Deborah
p.s. I have had students and faculty express specific concern with respect to immigrant communities at this time. Earlier this week, I circulated a remote pro bono opportunity to our list with Al Otro Lado, a bi-national, direct legal services organization serving indigent deportees, migrants, and refugees. Al Otro Lado has hosted Berkeley Law students through BLAST and other trips to deliver pro bono services. If you have an interest in remote immigration pro bono work, please find an application to volunteer with Al Otro Lado here.
