The law school community navigated through disruptions while honoring graduates.
Berkeley Law strives to celebrate the achievements of our graduates in a respectful and safe environment. While today’s commencement experienced disruptions, the noise did not impact the proceedings, prevent us from honoring the hard work and accomplishments of our students, or necessitate the premature conclusion of our ceremony.
“Commencement is a special time for celebration,” said Dean Erwin Chemerinsky. “We want to express our deepest admiration for our speakers, our graduates and their families for their patience and understanding. I could not be more pleased that we were able to celebrate this significant moment and the significant achievements of our students.”
Security Measures and Venue Rules
In preparation for the commencement ceremony, Berkeley Law took extensive precautions in close coordination with UC Berkeley’s Police Department to ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants. At the Greek Theatre, we enforced stringent security measures, including mandatory metal detector screenings and strict restrictions on personal items to significantly reduce risks and potential disruptions. Detailed guidelines on prohibited items were clearly communicated to all attendees well in advance, ensuring that everyone was adequately prepared and informed. These comprehensive efforts demonstrate our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety at our events.
